<This is a much coveted secret of behavioural therapy. Because the problem is
self-limiting, the problem-person is forced to become their own problem and
hence their own solution. For deeply egoistic persons this is often the only
way to help them.>

The techniques you mention express the "behavior modification" techniques
that I saw many times being done on patients when I worked years ago in a
psychiatric unit for adolescents. Unfortunately the young men and women
were readmitted many times. And although I feel a sense from you that you are
trying to say that it is important to penetrate the layers of ego....there is
so much more beyond that penetration ...... ...and that takes the desire and
courage to look inward....For me that was a very scary thing but if I had not
found the anunda list it would not have been done....It has changed my entire
life...

The behavior modification that you describe is an attempt at trying to train
the mind and thus the body without any real consideration of understanding
where the actions have come from...But until the program that is running the
behavior is understood...only then can it be changed....

It's much like a hidden automatic control of a heater or
air-conditioner....until we know where that control is and where it has been
set....it cannot be altered...I can place sweaters on if the room becomes too
cold .....or open a window if the temperature is too hot..trying to maintain
some sort of homeostasis....but that still doesn't change the setting of the
thermostat...and precious energy will be lost until I find the control to
manually set it by what is most comfortable for the body.

Another example is eating disorders......or drug addictions ..Until the
program that runs the disorder or the addiction is understood, there will
never be long lasting changes made....and the people will continue to
experience the disorders and addictions throughout their lives......

It takes work and dedication and the shedding of some tears and pain...but as
I feel my lower chakra generating the lifeforce up and into my heart
chakra...I know it has all been worth it....
