I am so sorry you are having to go through this. This seems an excruciating
lesson in letting go. I'm glad you've found ACOA and Al-Anon to support you,
as well as this list. I think if I were in your shoes I'd do whatever I
could to make peace within myself about the situation -- this may or may not
include doing "what's right." I would probably need to speak or write to my
father, saying whatever I need to say before I surrendered him to Divine Will
(not that he's mine to surrender, but you know what I mean). I might get in
touch with the police or the psychiatric emergency team in his town just to
let them know the kinds of threats that have been made. They won't be able
to do anything (and they probably know of your father already), but this
would help me release him. You are having to grieve your father before his
death at the same time you hope beyond hope that he'll live to recover.
Working on your own grief is the most powerful task you have at this time.
Ask God for help and accept all the love of people around you. There is
nothing else for you to do beyond centering yourself in love and peace. Keep
