Very simply ..

Man has elevated the medical profession to the status of a god
and given away his power to this god to "fix" the pain which he
alone can resolve from within himself.

In denying his power to resolve the pain within himself,
man has elevated the pharmaceutical company to a god ..

the pharmaceutical company greed sees them repress
most medical or scientific information which will cause them to
lose money ..

who else would take out a patent
  on a human DNA, gene or chromosome?

  (have a look at who is funding genome research)
