I don't mean to offend you [or anyone here] but even when I was a very
little girl I found the 'Garden of Eden' story distasteful...... I have
just re-read it re your post [and having read Fiona's 'If I forget thee'].
A wave of anger swept over me the abuse of it.

 it is corrupt. I denounce it now as I have denounced it before.

If it offends so be it. It is more of an offence to let it stand.
