Subject: [K-list] Re: Voices - Clarification
From: Divine Goddess

On 2000/12/08 08:45, Divine Goddess posted thus to the K-list:

What I share is out of my own experiences. I am not a professional
therapist.I am assuming you don't have an organic problem or some
type of psychosis going on.

I think we all, to some degree, hear voices. I do. What makes a
difference between people is the quality, character, and message
these voices deliver.

Probably, if the voices were telling you soothing, wonderful things
you wouldn't be posting about this problem.

When I was younger sometimes what I heard was especially malignant
and vicious.I often heard and felt the urge to throw myself in front
of a car, or leap off a high cliff or even shoot or murder someone.

I thought I was such a terrible, awful person because of this. I
really believed I was insane or on my way to being so.

A turning point began when I realized just because someone tells me
something it is not so; just because I hear someone tell me to do
something, I can choose not to.I can choose not to answer questions.
Not every question even deserves an answer. And, if it was internal
dialouge (voices), this didnt mean that I was evil for having such
thoughts or hearing those things. I am not my thoughts.

There came a time when I realized those voices represented something
unresolved within me. It represented an energy stored within me that
needed a voice. Anger therapy really made a difference on that one
and brought HUGE changes within me. Effective anger therapy, for me,
includes a lot of screaming, yelling, crying and physical activity
like hitting something. Beating pillows with a rolled up newspaper
was a great way for me to give the energy a voice. Once the energy
had a voice and a physical outlet it left me and diffused itself and
that particular voice never came back.

It also transformed my appearance physically. My eyes became very
clear and sparkled like crystals is one result. Releasing energy and
voice like this is an ongoing process for me.

I think it also helps to love those voices, love them for the
messages they give you no matter how mixed up, confusing, and hateful
they seem. From my own experience I would consider them inarticulate
cries for attention that parts of you are telling you because they
don't know any other way to do so. In loving them, you are giving love
to yourself. Being abusive to them only gives them more energy and
makes you feel frustrated and powerless.

Another suggestion would be to find an OSHO meditation center. Most
of us are familiar with silent meditations. This often makes the
voices extremely loud and difficult to deal with. The Dynamic
Meditation at the centers is continuous, whole body movement to loud
music which encourages vocalizations from deep in your body.

If there is no center near you, go to Osho's site on the web and
order the CD for Dynamic Meditation. (The kundalini meditation one is
pretty great too). Then do the meditation at home. Just be aware of
yourself to not injure your body.

Someday, with time, the voices will feel heard and go. Then,
hopefully, you will begin to hear the voices within that tell you how
wonderful and lovely you truly are.

Love,
Susan
