I have read in various list messages that solar
falres have been affecting people's K. For those
following this sort of thing, the
following may be of interest. It was brought to my
attention from the ARRL (Ham Radio) list. There are
movies/animations of these recent solar storms at:

According to the report I received, on july 15,
there was an "extreme geomagnetic storm" that was
nearly off the measurement scale. July 16 had one of
the most powerful solar flares of the current cycle,
which triggered a storm of protons directed toward
Earth. The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory
recorded a full halo coronal mass ejection heading
toward earth at greater than 1 million meters per
second
