Poll Question:

Question: How many of us have experienced sound "effects?"

Have they lessened or increased over time?

Have any of us heard the sound of "celestial" music or music of the spheres?
(A friend once told me he heard this music while under LSD.)

*****************

15 people participated in this poll

10 people said they experienced K related sounds
1 no
4 people made other relevant comments

****

4 people mentioned buzzing 2 more high pitched buzzing
2 people mentioned tinnitus sounds
2 people mentioned ringing
4 people mentioned roaring or thunderous sounds
1 mentioned tidle noise
2 people mentioned humming
1 mentioned chirping
1 mentioned a popping sound
3 people mentioned music--beautiful chords or beats and rhythms or Tibetan
Bell music
1 mentioned primordial sounds

2 people mentioned that the sounds increased when K activity was generally
strong. One person said the high pitch noises had decreased, while the
humming had increased.

In a previous poll on voices, 11 people heard other sorts of sounds. I've
added these comments at the end.

Some of this years Comments:

Shabda Yoga, the Yoga of the Sound
Current. Shabda is an ancient Sanskrit word for divine or cosmic
sound, heavenly music. For thousands of years, human beings around
the world have been tuning into a sound which comes from beyond the
 stars.

****************

Some time ago a roaring sound appeared in my ears and it never stopped
since. When I work it fades to a level at which it doesn't disturb my
attention but when I relax or meditate it becomes strong.

*************
i have gotten the same thing except it is a ringing instead of a roaring
sound...fortunately, it is normally in the background (unlike with
tinnitus)... but it is a beautiful sound that i can focus on in meditation
whenever i wish to call my attention to it...

**************
The sound I most often hear when I wake up vibrating from the K energy is a
thunderous sound or sometimes buzzing or last night a sort of popping.

*************
I can hear buzzing and roaring not exactly at will, but nearly, when looking
for it....
The buzz or tidal noise (depending on days) was on the belly region.
Now it is up in the mid of the lungs too.
And I use the beginning of the palate, at the junction of upper teeth, to
help the rythm of the vibrations in a conscious way and getting them up.

***********

Various buzzing, humming and chirping started for me nearly three years ago.
After about a year, sound became continuous, 24 hrs./day. About a year ago,
single tones changed into beautiful 5-8 toned chords -- the one heard most
often is D# major (I think, although my piano is probably out of tune!). The
sound seems to get louder when Kundalini is particularly active and/or when
SomeOne wants my attention.

************

Yes. Im acccompanied by a very feint buzzing sound which becomes very
apparent when other noise is decreased ie. when Im trying to sleep. It is
very much an electrical sound. It is very similar to the high-pitched sound
of an ioniser.
Have occassional very mild tinnitus which only lasts a couple of minutes.
Dont know if Im going off topic here but have experienced voices/sounds as
though they are right next to me when they've come from many metres away.
<<Have they lessened or increased over time?>>
Im not sure - if so very gradually. It tends to increase when k feels more
active ie. during full moon or recent solar flares etc.

***************
I don't hear sound effects so much, more like lots of beats and rythmns that
make up tunes. They are not definable tunes though. A kind of 'hybrid trance
classical whistle beat' thing. At the same time I can see waves of shapes,
that coincide perfectly with the sounds; kind of platonic shapes that meld
and twist in reflective colours as the vibrations in the back of my mind
become further focused, (similar to fractals). Admittedly I do like my
trance, but this is beyond anything I have 'seen' or 'heard', it definately
eminates from somewhere inside somewhere. When I turn my attention to my
body, I instictivly feel the energies from these harmonies flowing in waves
where I direct my attention. The music travels through my body in distinct
vibrations - it can get very intense, depending upon my mood.

****************
Seems like there are several different kinds of sounds. In the beginning I
thought the high pitch tone was tinnitus. This was until I spent a few nights
in a bar with live music and afterwards experienced real tinnitus. I missed
my sound that was more from inside the head and drowned in the unpleasant
sound from tinnitus. Seems like this inner sound is a bit like like "knowing
it is there"
Then is the humming or like sometimes roaring which seems to originate from
the back of the neck.
Both these sounds seem to be strongly connected to the body energy
level/K/yoga etc.The high pitch tone has lessened over time and the
intermittent humming has increased.
I would not say I heard music even though the tone sometimes is similar to
music.

*******************

...not including me.

*************
Re the sound poll.
I'm a pilot and I underwent intensive audiometric tests
( including a tympanogram) recently because the docs were puzzled by the
fact that my ear drums are imploding--turning concave. Now, this happens
normally if one has a sinus problem, when the eustachian tubes get blocked.
My sinuses are dry as a bone.
I can't help thinking that K is causing physiological changes in the brain
cavity, which in turn is reflected in phenomenon such as noises/
buzzing.
Comment?

******************
Include me on the sound poll. However, clairaudience include everything from
channeled messages to primordial sound.
Moreover, I see primordial sounds as symptoms of a certain step during
meditation: First we experience inner colours, seen clairvoyantly; second,
we hear inner sounds; the third step is vibration - the body begins to
vibrate as a *levitation light*.
...t's almost impossible for me to explain in our language what I mean with
the term *Primordial sounds*. To *explain* it, to *understand* it, is a
contradiction in terms, in a sense, because primordial sounds precedes our
understanding, our mortal language and semantic itself - and every attempt
to force into definitions is yet another aspect of maya, of *relative
measurements*, these ghosts we call things and incidents which our ego use
in order to cling to the relative as an escape from sunnyata or emptiness.

Primordial sounds precedes mantras. They have specific effects on different
organs in our body, and are for healing purposes. There are a spesific sound
for the throath chakra, a specific sound for the hearth chakra, specific
sounds for every organ in the body etc. However, while mantras sometimes
have a semantic MEANING, primordial sounds do not have any meaning. They
just ARE, plain and simple.

*******************

I am working for a company that has developed a device that will allow you
to channel this "inner music" so that it can be heard audibly.

**************

Vivikenanda (Raja Yoga) comments on aphorism 35 by stating that in yoga it is
thought that by concentrating on the root of the tongue one will begin to
hear sounds.
He further states that sounds are only important if a specific symbol and
experience are associated with them, so that by recalling the symbol, one can
recall the experience and the sound. Hence the somewhat complicated systems
of vowel sounds (mantras) and imagery that has evovled in the various tantras
as well as Qabalistic schools. Thus, the meaning of sounds is somewhat
relative. Their cause however, might be more objective, if we consider the
effect of blood pressure on the inner ear, as well as the medulla oblongota,
and the areas of the brain immediatly around it.
Joscelyn Godwin in "The Mystery of the Seven Vowel Sounds" (Phanes Press)
points out that the natural acoustic pitch for vowels, regardless of being in
Hebrew, Greek, Latin, or English is "EE -AH-OH" (or I.A.O. the name of the
ancient Gnostic god). Pitch boundaries do not effect the order either.

****************
At one time I used to hear "Tibetan Bell Music" when I meditated, and also at
other times, but at that time, I was going through a particular period of
high kundalini activity.

One time whilst just sitting I could hear chanting on my right and the bell
music on my left - I used to liken the music to sitar or "tinkly" music,
and it wasn't until my Rei Ki teacher played a tape of Tibetan Bell music
during my first Rei Ki attunement that I realised what it was.

Unfortunately I haven't experienced the music for a few months, but I do
still hear buzzing and ringing noises.

**********************
Notes from 1998

I did hear the sound "OM" very
loudly for the first 2-3 years; now it is quiet and usually manifests only
during some growth or transistion experience, such as at the release of
stored stress. I would be interested in hearing from others who have had
these kinds of experiences.

**************

I dont hear voices but I hear birds singing as though out side my
head and I get feelings of bliss no internal light though,

**************

I have heard - voices: male and female, conversations, choirs of
male voices, other choirs, and full orchestral pieces.
I learned to, in most states of mind, have some degree of control
of what I hear. I can increase the threshold of hearing so that never
hear anything, or I can decrease the threshold selectively so that I hear
something in particular. I'm a little out of practice now though.

*************

went to bed and had a heavy K rush, buzzing around the left ear and I did
hear mumbled voices, but fell asleep and still haven't figured out why. Heard
beautiful violin music one time, saw a blue ball of energy dance down the
hallway... have seen geometric figures, mathematical equations, and I am not
good at math at all.

******************
Actually I hear a whole choir, I do not have to be in meditation. It started
very suddenlyand I could also hear from outside myself, but I was to learn
after debating this fact with someone else that infact it was not without
but was indeed within.

When it first started I was positive I could hear it in my room, I even had
a spot where it came from, but by experimenting with direction and covering
my ears I found that it was at the same level of sound and I could detect
that it was coming from my inner ear, although it sounded like it was coming
from outside my ear.

****************
sometimes, or other sounds or birds singing.

*******************

I don't hear voices, other than my own inner voice, but
I do hear the buzzing.

********************

I HEAR ALOT OF SINGING AND BIG BANDS, THE ONLY UNACCOMPANIED VOICES I HEAR
ARE WHISPERS

*******************
Seeing geometric figures before my eyes while trying to sleep
large buzzing noises, fureous head-ringing and tones in my head,

*******************

And of course the
ringing sounds and other highpitch and low pitch sounds.

***************

During daytime it is only
tone or/and bells.

Dear list,
