It is similar to when some folks in the neo-pagan community, or yoga
community, take on new names, or craft names as they are sometimes
called, and use them in their daily life. What was once an ideal, an
asperation of divine intent (to become 'Silverdovetail' or 'Frater
Who
is Like God {michael}) suddenly becomes a point of ridicule and
embarasement. People poke fun at it, often in a personal and cruel
way, and for someone naive enough to expose themselves publically as
asuch, it can have an effect on their desire to continue on their
path.

Susan responds:
It can be a powerful experience to choose a new name for yourself.
You hear about not sharing the name, because it gives away power and
such.

I choose a name for the opposite reason...to grow into it. I took a
lot of heat several years ago when I chose the name "divine goddess"
as my web handle. I felt the name expressed a lot of qualities that I
was but didnt understand on an experiential level.

i am one of those people who giggle at names when i hear them. why?
cause the energy signature of the name does not match or is congruent
with the wearer. It's like the emporer in his new clothes. I can see
why people think others are posers. It may be true the name is for
you but it still doesnt fit in the public world. The answer to making
it fit is to wear the name in public, imho, and let the process shape
you into a representation of that name. kinda like trial by fire....
nice humility ritual... lol

It all depends on why you chose that name...or did that name choose
you?

blessings,
susan
