Dear Melissa,

Maybe because it clutters the mind with too much past history, preventing us
from living in the present--causing defensive reactions. I realize this is a
cliche, but I suspect there is also truth in it. I'm not sure as *I*
certainly am unable to do it for any but brief periods of *time.*
