Subject: [K-list] Madness Poll
From: Druout

On 2000/04/18 11:47, Druout posted thus to the K-list:

Dear List,

To answer my own poll:

<<How many of us have feared we were going mad. What symptoms caused this
fear?>>

At the beginning I couldn't figure out what was happening to me. I had had
some past experience with LSD, so knew enough not to try to fight it, but the
waves were so incredibly pleasurable I really didn't care if I was losing it
or not. But then, being older and not having to function with children or in
a job allowed me the luxury of letting it flow.

Traditionally in India, life is divided into various stages--the student
stage, the married/children/work stage, the stage when worldly things are
rejected, and finally the monk stage--the giving up of self-identity.
(Roughly taken from Tradition and Revolution by J. Krishnamurti)

Perhaps these stages evolved simply because K often makes it so difficult to
function "normally."

Hearing "voices" from what I call the "Message Center" were my most obvious
symptom of mental illness. Yelping out loud when the energy hits the brain
is also difficult to explain when in public. lol

<<How many of us have been diagnosed with some form of mental illness? What
form?>>

no. At an early point in my experiences I had a dream. I was working in a
hospital. A nurse wanted to know my symptoms. So as to avoid a diagnosis of
mental illness, I first asked the nurse if she had ever heard of Kundalini.
When she answered No, I decided not to talk about symptoms! The same night I
dreamed about clogged drains LOL. This was before I knew about Chakras!

How many of us have been hospitalized for mental illness? For how long?

no

Love, Hillary

"Tradition divides life into various stages. There is *brahmacarya* a stage
of celibacy when, as a student, the boy learns from a guru. The second stage
is that of *grhastha, when a man gets married, has children, seeks to
accumulate wealth and so on. He also supports the *sannyasi* and the
children, and thereby supports society. In third stage, the *vanaprastha, a
man walks out of the pursuit of worldly things and faces the stage of
preparation for the final stage which is sannyasa, in which there is a giving
up of name, home, identity--a symbolic donning of the saffron robe. " (Pupul
Jayakar speaking with J Krishnamurti)
