Dear Tony

I will probably sound like an asshole in this post , well so be it...

You are right, you aren't afraid of throwing those words around ... The
Sakti/ Prana thing, Chitrni Nadi.... Many of your posts are a pretty good
florilegium of Buddhist/Hinduist terms. (Mixed bag actually)

<snips>

As you are quoting Aurobindo's ashram, here is Aurobindo's own take on maya
from his "Synthesis of Yoga" Not the ashram's, which is too often confused
itself in understanding Aurobindo and the Mother.

Maya
1."Phenomenal consciousness"
2."Wisdom-formation of the eternal."
3."Illusion; unreality."
4."The power of self-illusion in Brahman."

"Maya in its original sense meant comprehending and containing consciousness
capable of embracing, measuring and limiting and therefore formative."

"It is that which outlines, measures out, moulds forms in the formless,
psychologises and seems to make knowable the Unknowable, geometrisises and
seems to make measurable the limitless."

"Later the word came from its original sense of knowledge, skill,
intelligence to acquire a pejorative sense of cunning, fraud illusion and it
is in the figure of enchantment or illusion that it is used by the
*philosophical* systems."

BTW, The word 'illusion' in 'self-illusion in Brahman' does not mean the
same as our current *psychological* view of 'self-illusion in Human' :-)

Brahman (Aurobindo again):
"He is able to conceive Himself from multiple centres in multiple forms from
which and upon which flow multiple currents of energy seen by us as action
or play of forces. Maya is self-conception"

Notice that the word that Aurobindo uses is self-*con*ception not
"self-*de*ception" (The way we popularly understand the deceptive nature of
illusion.)
Illusion in Aurobindo's view still has the original sense of turning energy
into light, a stage in the formative and creative functionality of Brahman.

Energy>Light>Form>Matter

'Brahman-maya' (Aurobindo again):
"The divine's power of formation."

As we are now splitting hairs, my God, we sound more like a bunch of
pharisees and scriptologists, the ones Jesus had to be confronted with so
much.
A word lover you are (like me I guess).
A philologist you are not:

>I split Maya into its original sounds Maa and Yaa
>Ma being the sound of the primeval Mother <snip>
>Ya you will find in yantra or tool.
>So here we have maya 'the tool of Ma'.
> Which is I believe close to the original meaning.

Which is what again?

Let's see what we can make of Brahma...
(Me trying to be humorous, but it comes off as sarcastic I am afraid.)
I split Brahma into its original sounds of Brah and Maa
Ma being the sound of the primeval Mother
In Dutch we say "Moo"
So here we have Brah as an expression of Ma or vice versa
Which is the sound of one bull mooing.
Which is I believe close to the original meaning.
:-)
Which is what again?

How did you figure this out? You must have lost your mind, figured this out
thoughtlessly, found your mind again and found it worthy enough to use your
thought processes to set these thoughts of yours down. In fact inviting us
to use our thoughts to process your thoughtless discovery and then blaming
us for using any thoughts at all...

There is something awry, it seems...

Last night I did an experiment, I actually withdrew from and went beyond
thought, thereby predating your 'Universe' post. I can do that easily, I am
good at that. What came out this time was a mix of unrelated word streams
and neat and clear sentences... all verbalized. I was quite amazed.
Then I did another experiment, I actually joined up with the thoughts that
were incited by those words and sentences and went into deep thought... I
found out which words were unrelated garbage and which made sense...
Then I did another experiment, I quietened my mind 'til my thoughts vibrated
at a very quiet rate..., just the brain waves...from silence and in
silence...
I heard the sound of one...

I'm satisfied, I've succeeded in sounding like an asshole. :-)

Love,
Wim
