<< Otherwise I live this body, sitting here typing... trying to make
ppl. discover that there is only reality and that suffering is illusion. >>

30 years ago at a cafe reading in Berkeley, a poet had just read an
impassioned poem about the suffering of impoverished migrant farm families.
A yogi (or some sort of spiritually inclined fellow, distinguishable from the
arty-farty crowd by his impeccable all-white clothing) stood up from the back
of the room and announced, "There is no suffering! Pain is an illusion!"

To which the poet shouted back, "You stay here -- I'm going out to my car and
getting my gun. When I come back, I'm going to shoot you and we'll see what
an illusion pain is!"

The yogi beat a fast retreat out of the building and was never seen at a
reading again. Had it been Wim, no doubt he would have stood his ground and
welcomed one and all to bring in their arsenal and empty a couple dozen
rounds into his hynogogic flesh. Then we would have all been enlightened on
the spot. Alas, Wim was not there, and we were instead left with the false
impression that the yogi had been a B.S. spouting coward.

We don't need gun control in America. We need people like Wim to perform
demonstrations of the sort described above to liberate us from our silly
belief in suffering. Why, he could teach all American school kids how to
hynogogically deflect the bullets. And after that, he could help set Amnesty
International straight. In their samsara-ridden minds, they think the
problem is people being tortured around the world. And they think the
torture really causes suffering. What fools. What we really need is for
people like Wim to stand beside the person being tortured repeat as often as
needed (until the point gets across): "There is no suffering!"

This should do a lot to improve the condition of the world and make us all
feel a lot safer.
