I think they had better stay away from this argument, as I don't think
it will hold water in the long run.

The generally accepted reason (from anthropology) for the lack of these
features in humans is very simple: we have been cooking our food and
using tools for so long (hundreds of thousands of years) that those
features have atrophied from disuse. Earlier variants of humanity were
much more robust.
