There are a lot of variations on this story; the one
that I find the most moving is that the King Cobras
raised themselves up to cover the Buddha's head in order
to shield him from the hot sun! this is depicted in many
sculptures.

The Buddha, as I understand him, was not interested
in K or in any kind of 'union' (meditational or otherwise);
He was interested in the Present Moment, the Now, as he
felt this was the only way to understand Reality or the
world as it exists.
