Stephanie here: I had a bit to add to what Maureen had to say.

That is correct. With the *heavy duty* ones involving the *big
boys*,the public is generally not privy to.
Thank you,

Stephanie here.

To my knowledge, official church exorcisms are so rare (as in the Orthodox
Church or the Roman Catholic Church) that most seminaries never teach the
ceremony to priests. It is more common in monasteries (the knowledge
concerning exorcisms) the last time I heard, but several years ago I tried
to get a copy of the "service" at a local Orthodox Church. They contacted
every monastery and diocese across America and they could only find a small
"preliminary exorcism prayer." It was about three pages.
I know that in Pentecostal churches and many denominations which are
"Spirit-based", informal exorcisms happen a lot. In fact, I have seen
people try to exorcise an epileptic in the middle of a seizure. The mouth
foamed and it was the devil. I asked the five people rebuking Satan out of
this man if they knew him, and they did not. They found him on the sidewalk
flailing about and began to heal him. When I arrived I saw the medical
bracelet on his arm, saw that he was NOT POSSESSED BUT NEEDED MEDICAL HELP,
and this really frustrated me. The people were sincerely trying to help, but
I cannot shake that image. I do not know about Catholicism today, but I do
know that the Orthodox Church believes possession is possible. However, to
be considered possessed in Orthodox terminology, the spirit(s) have to be
able to ambulate you and not just torture you. Spiritual "torture" is
something many Orthodox saints endured at the hands of "demonic forces" and
they were applauded for their fearlessness and their valiant struggle. What
is very dark is drawn to what is very Light. Sometimes the outer veil of
foes clouds that inner light, but if the light weren't there, why would the
person get so much attention? Plenty of very dark people are "left alone"
in this way. I think this topic rather one sees it as real or delusional
should be looked at through the eyes of understanding and love. If people
fear these "possessed" people, their fear increases the " possession." It
solidifies it in the mind and psyche of the "so called possessed." Perhaps
nobody cares about this information, but it might be of help to some. I
know the worst thing for "demonic oppression" is to give into the fear of
it. Fear is the opposite of Faith/Love. You lose ground the greater your
fear is. So if the priest is reinforcing and validating fear, I would go
somewhere else. Telling your friend it is just "energy" may be true to you
but it is not true to him. I think validation of the experience along with
demonstrating the experience has no real power over him regardless of how
great the tortures he endures are.
It is the illusion of power that gives "them" their power. We are the
ones that hand our power over so freely. Be it energy, be it entities, be
it both, fear that intimidates you will take you down. Fear that you feel
emotionally or even spiritually that you do not allow to sway you or stop
you is courage. I hope this wasn't too much rambling. I'm rather familiar
with this topic and how many people I've seen burned unnecessarily, had they
had the right support.

Peace be with you,

Stephanie
