I am closer to the Taoist water path than kundalini now, but this is still
common for many energy works.

Pine tree is natually a balanced energy, not firey (yang) nor watery (yin).
With Kundalini, a fire-nature energy, you would be likely to get close to a
more balanced energy, a pine tree, or the yin energy, water, creek or ocean.
  The chemical or particle in these things would soothes your energy. I am
the same way too.

That's why some of the water essence type (water, metal, fire, wood, earth)
of Chinese herbal medicine is helpful for Kundalini energy, especially for
the emotional swing.
