No, the stories aren't pointing to the physical possibility, but to an inner
state of happiness and completeness where nothing can be added. As this is
beyond comprehension, in an effort to give a kind of description, the
analogy of hermaphrodite is used. So the hermaphrodite is depicted as one
forever united (in love) with the (inner) partner and this blissful state is
lost at birth. The moral from the stories is that lasting happiness can only
be found within.
